In 1999, KPMG contracted Tangible Software Inc. (TSI) to build its ‘ePay’ product in support of KPMG’s eCommerce contract with State of Texas, called ‘Texas Online.’ TSI managed the design, development, integration, deployment and initial operation. The product offered both credit card and ACH capabilities with a robust customer service system that allows KPMG to deploy a new merchant within a matter of days. KPMG and Texas Online won the coveted, ‘NACHA Best Payment Portal of the Year Award, 2002’ for ePay.
As part of this effort TSI identified a series of unmet requirements for the enterprise payment space. With the permission of KPMG, TSI went on to develop Tangible Payments which focused on larger enterprise, usually encompassing multiple banks and IT specific requirements.
TSI started to work on developing the solution in 2001 and went live in 2003, a 100% Java-based enterprise web payment service. From its inception, Tangible Payments was designed to support large enterprises with complex technical, security, and business requirements. Based on these capabilities, TSI has been able to capture premier customers and projects in both government and public industries.
In 2005 TSI moved the intellectual property into a subsidiary, Tangible Payments LLC. In 2013 Tangible Payments was spun off to a stand alone entity including all contracts.
Tangible Payments Components:
Payment Gateway: The Tangible Payments Gateway is a service that encrypts sensitive information, such as electronic check information and credit card numbers, securely between customers and merchants during online transactions. This service is convenient and safe for customers and enables clients to accept payments efficiently while minimizing costs. Tangible Payment Gateway performs multiple tasks to validate and protect the security of the transaction, a seamless process unseen by the customer. With the ubiquity of online payments in today’s market, scores of companies claiming to provide secure payment gateways have sprouted up, often with questionable practices which could lead to fraudulent and unsafe processing of highly sensitive information. Tangible Payments is the secure portal that is both reliable and affordable for its clients.
Customer Service Center: The Tangible Payments Customer Service System (CSS) is a robust system that allows merchants access to their transactions. Users, if given access privilege, can search for and view transactions or generate a transaction report for a specified date range. Viewing transactions gives the merchant the control to handle inquiries about the status of the transaction and give insight to why a transaction failed in certain instances.
Invoicing Management: The Tangible Payments Invoicing System enables our clients to provide encrypted email invoices to their customers, facilitating the process of paying invoices online for various products and services. Customers are able to receive customers instantaneously, which result in a great reduction in the turnaround time for payments.
Secure Storage: Tangible Payments Secured Storage (“Secure Storage”) is a hosted solution for merchants to diminish this liability. Specifically, merchants can store all customer payment data in Secure Storage, a Tier 1 PCI DSS system for storing, querying, and retrieving customer payment data, as well as processing customer payments. Once payment data is stored, a token (which looks and behaves like a credit card number) is returned to the merchant. This token can be used to retrieve the stored payment data or even make a payment.
